Title: Mike's Minute

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12:9-10

Bob Wieland lost both legs in Vietnam. For an athlete who dreamed of a career in professional sports, this tragedy was especially difficult to bear.

Bob was spared from the destruction of bitterness and despair. He was delivered from these and other unhealthy emotions through his faith in God and his reliance on God’s Word. Bob said, “I do my best to apply the Word of God to my life because I know it works.” Bob took God at his word, cast all his cares on Jesus (1 Peter 5:7), and took seriously the claim that the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength (1 Corinthians 1:25).

Maybe that’s why Bob, who walked on his hands, completed a three-year walk across America, the Race Across America on a custom-made bicycle, the New York and Los Angeles marathons, the Hawaii Ironman Triathlon, and bench pressed a record 507 pounds. He also achieved his dream of working in professional sports when he became a strength coach for the Green Bay Packers.

Bob Wieland stands as an object lesson of this powerful truth... God can unleash his strength through our weaknesses. So, you aren’t strong enough? Perfect! You are exactly the kind of person God is looking to use.
