Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last, but we do it to get a crown that will last forever.

1 Corinthians 9:24-25

A husband and wife rose early one Sunday morning. They had breakfast and then the wife went into the bedroom to dress for church. As the time approached that they needed to leave for morning worship, she noticed her husband hadn’t made any move toward getting dressed.

She asked, “Why aren’t you getting dressed for church?”

He said, “Cause I don’t want to go.”

She asked, “Do you have any good reasons?”

He said, “Yes, I have three good reasons. First, the congregation is cold. Second, no one likes me. Third, I just don’t feel like going this morning.”

“Well, I have three good reasons that you should go,” she replied. “First, many people in the congregation are warm. Second, at least a few people like you. Third, you are the preacher. So get dressed!

Nobody likes doing what is right and good all the time. We all have moments when we feel like giving a halfhearted effort or yielding to temptation. The mark of faith is facing down what you don’t want to do and doing it anyway.

We need to remember that faith is not a feeling. It involves feelings, but it is more than a feeling. Faith is a decision. We choose faith. Faith is deciding to believe and then doing our belief.

Don’t wait on a feeling. Choose faith today. Decide and do.
